Please contact the co-ordinator before joining any advertised hike and also have a look at our grading system and "what to take on a day hike" notes at the bottom of this page. Best time to call a hike leader: 18h00-21h00. If at all possible, please phone the day before (and not on) the hike.

India Venster, Fountain Ledge and more

Hike and scramble up the front face of Table Mountain below the cableway past India Venster and up to the Western Table via Fountain Ledge. Descend via Diagonal to the Pipe Track and back to the cars. 6-7 hours. Meet Tim Jenkin (083 3549374 or 021 68547418h30) at 8h30 @ Kloofnek Parking. 3Dd.

Oude Schip from Sunset Rocks

Boulder hop (all the way) along the coast from Sunset Rocks via Sandy Bay to Oude Schip. Return the same way. Approx 3.5 hours. Wear shoes with a good grip. Bring at least 3l water.

Meridian Annual Christmas Get Together

It’s “that” time of the year again. Join us for the club Christmas get together. Bring your own meat to braai, salads and drinks (plus glass). Baked potatoes and cutlery will be provided. Don’t forget your (preferably) unisex, hiking related gift to the value of at least R30. And don’t forget to wear something “Christmassy”! (non-members: R20)

    PHOTOS PLEASE!!!

    Good News we as Meridian Members qualify for a 10% discount on Capestorm apparel and accessories and 5% on non Capestorm products excluding Suunto and Polar Products, at Capestorm.
    We however need to provide proof of membership. All we need is your photo to arrange for your Membership card. This will be a drivers license size card so it can fit easily into your wallet or pocket. On renewal you will receive a sticker to place on the back confirming your renewal.
    We therefore require from you a passport/drivers license size photo of you, it can be either black/white or colour, together with a Self Address envelope. Please write your name/membership number on the back, of the photo.

    Meridian Hiking Club on Facebook

    A Meridian Hiking Club group has been created on the social networking web site, Facebook. If you are a member just do a search for "Meridian Hiking Club" or click here and then join the group. If you are not yet a member of Facebook then go to www.facebook.com and join up.
    So far we have 170+ members on our Meridian group. Please try to visit this page at least once a week and contribute something. Start a discussion. Add a link to your favourite website. Add your photos. Tell us of interesting stuff that will happen in your area, add a funny pic or video, etc, so that we can share experiences and connect with each other!


    The following items are recommended on day hikes:

  • Warm clothing (the temperature can suddenly drops on the mountain)
  • Space blanket
  • Personal first aid kit
  • Rain gear
  • Torch
  • Whistle
  • Cell phone (on silent)


  • Grading System

    Length: (per day)
    1 – short – up to 6 km
    2 – short to med – 6 to 10 km
    3 – medium – 10 to 14 km
    4 – long – 14 to 18 km
    5 – very long – over 18 km
    Gradient:
    A – flat/undulating – beach/contour
    B – medium – Lion’s Head
    C – steep – Skeleton Gorge - Hiking Boots and water essential.
    D – steep with scrambling – Devil’s Peak via Knife Edge - Hiking Boots and water essential.
    E – more difficult scrambling – Kloof Corner - Hiking Boots and water essential.
    Effort:
    a – easy
    b – moderately easy
    c – moderately fit
    d – fit
    e – very fit
